Updating Kids’ Bathroom

Sharing is caring!

Thank you, BLACK+DECKER for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to get my unfinished project completed!

When we moved into this house 7+ years ago, I was so excited for my kids to have their own bathroom! I quickly ran out to the store and picked up an entire matching bathroom set filled with jungle animals since that seemed to please both my son and my daughter. That was the one and only time I bought a matching bathroom set, and it made me feel like a grown-up!

Fast forward to last week, and my 11 and almost 13 year-old are looking more like grown-ups, while the jungle bathroom set is looking decidedly childish! In fact, I’ve been telling my kids for the last 3 years or so that we could redo their bathroom and get rid of the toddler print. But it’s one of those rooms in the house that I very rarely go into, so it just never made it to the top of my priority list!

So when BLACK+DECKER challenged me to complete a project on my to-do list as part of their Big Finish campaign, I knew that shower curtain had to come down!  Umm, and, yes, the big blue elephant rug is out the door too!

I’m fortunate that my son and daughter both have said that red is their favorite color for the past 5 years or so now! One loves red because of his beloved Arizona Cardinals, the other because of her fondness for Michael Jackson!  However they got there, it makes my job easier when I’m decorating their common spaces!

I found this red and white striped shower curtain brand new at a thrift store for only $5!  I love when I find items still in their original packaging there! I picked up the rug for $7.  The most time-consuming part of the project was repainting the vanity.  Goodness, did it need painted!  It doesn’t look too terrible in the before picture, but it was chipped and the finish was completely worn off in places.  I had navy left over from another room and I am now officially in love with this vanity!

For $12 total and a little under 2 hours in time, I finally can cross this off my list! And my kids can no longer be embarrassed when their friends have to use their bathroom since there are no more monkeys staring at them!
