Thrift Store Wall Art DIY!

Sharing is caring!

I’ve been on a mad vinyl spree lately with my Silhouette and am stenciling the heck out of everything!  I love it, but you know what? It takes time! Sometimes a heck of a lot of time when you’re weeding all the little pieces out of letters.    So when I got my grubby little hands on these sketch pens from Silhouette, I may have let out a little squeal!

Not only is it incredibly simply to use these, but it is SO fast!  Just plug your sketch pen right where your blade normally goes, select “pen” in your cutting settings menu and you’re ready to “cut”.  It spits it out just as fast as when you’re cutting something, but then it’s ready to go!  You don’t have to weed anything or get out paints and brushes… your artwork is ready to be used!

Luckily for me, I had picked up this set of 4 pictures from a thrift store the other week, and I already knew I wanted to use them in some way for my daughter’s bedroom make-over.  They were $1.65 each and I loved the way the middle plaque was offset a little bit from the frame.

I’ll post later this week with the specifics on each step and what the other 3 look like, but today I want to focus on how easy this project was thanks to the sketch pens!  This would have been 5 extra steps easily if I had tried to paint the letters.  It seriously could not have been easier with the sketch pens and I love how you can print white or silver on black paper!  Now you don’t have to fret anymore that you can’t print white on printers (I know you were totally fretting over that, because that’s what good crafters do!).   I’m itching to download some chalkboard fonts and make all kinds of “chalkboard” labels using black cardstock and the white sketch pen!
