Summer, summer, summertime. Please, come.

It’s been a cold, cold winter. And so long.

We got a little teaser last week when it nearly hit 70, but now we’re back to normal February temps and I’m shivering again.  Shivering and dreaming of walking around without a coat. Of running to get the mail in just my flip flops. Of going to the beach and feeling the sun beat down.  I’m ready for it!

But for now, I’ll just show you some pics of some “summertime” cakes I’ve done.  Let’s set the mood and maybe the next few months will pass by quickly!

This was a cake I did for an old school friend! She had randomly found me on Facebook and needed a cake for her mom’s 60th birthday!  So fun to see everybody again after so many years!

The cake was a white sponge cake with lemon buttercream icing!  The shells I made using white chocolate and molds.  The sunglasses, ribbons, letters and flip flop straps I made out of fondant.  The flowers, I just piped using buttercream and a number 2 tip. The sand was brown sugar. I’ve tried using crushed graham crackers before for sand, and just trust me that brown sugar works MUCH better!  Your vacuum (and husband) will thank you!

This was a beach cake I made for another birthday party.  All the decorations were made using fondant. For the swimmer’s facial expressions, I just used a paintbrush dipped in black food coloring.

Remember, these are the images we want to keep in our heads.  Flip flops. The Beach. Swimming. Flip Flops.  Burn these into your brain.  Remember them and focus on them.

Not on these. However cute and convincing they may be.
