If you’ve hung around here at all, you know I’m a bit of a holiday nut. I go all out with themed food, countdowns and celebrations the day of. There’s no holiday too small for me to celebrate. But I’m going to go ahead and admit that St. Patrick’s Day food ideas usually leave me stumped.
I’ve tried the traditional route with corned beef and cabbage and it was one of probably only 2 meals in our 16 year marriage that we actually threw away and ordered a pizza. I kid you not. It was horrible, rotten and our 4 year old almost asked for new parents. My husband, Mr. Frugal himself, begged me to throw it away.
So, yeah, the next year I stuck to a pizza shaped like a shamrock. Everyone ate it, but it was pretty boring in terms of what I could have come up with for St. Patrick’s Day food ideas!
I knew I could do better! So I set out on a mission to find some more traditional St. Patrick’s Day food that also tasted good!

Mixed drinks not your thing? Go for a Green Beer! Here’s some tidbit about the green beer thing.
Drinking green beer has become more of an American tradition than anything else, one that the people of Ireland generally scoff at. With that said, it is popular so here’s how you make it. One drop of green food coloring into a beer mug, add beer. Yeah, that’s it. The beer you choose does make a difference as the lighter colored beers will look greener and for those as dark as Guinness, it’s almost unnoticeable.
Enjoy the day with your family and friends! If you’re not wearing green, you’ll get pinched! So be sure to grab a green shirt or scarf just to be safe!
May the luck of the Irish be with you!
