Pokemon Cake!

Sharing is caring!

I’m in full on planning-mode over here!  Planning for book fairs, community service groups, teacher appreciation luncheons, birthday parties, Halloween costumes…. more hours, more hours!!!

I miss you guys terribly, but all this extra stuff, plus getting used to working more hours this school year has me running around a  little nutso!

So I thought I’d share the Pikachu cake I made for my son a few years ago when he was in his full-on, borderline obsessive Pokemon stage.

This was such a simple cake to make!  I made 3 round layer cakes that got stacked on top of each other.  The 4th layer, I baked in a round pyrex bowl and used for the top of his “head”. The arms and legs were Twinkies that I trimmed to fit and then attached the arms with shish kebab sticks.  The ears are sugar cones that are also sitting on shish kebab sticks for stabilization.  I frosted the whole thing with icing that was tinted yellow.

The eyes and nose are Tootsie Rolls and the mouth and cheeks are Starburst.  You just pop them into the microwave for 6-8 seconds and then roll them out quickly with a rolling pin. I just use my kitchen shears to trim them into the shape I want and then stick them on. You have to work fast, though, before it dries out, but it’s the easiest way I’ve found to decorate cakes and it tastes much better than fondant!

Easy peasy and one happy little boy!
