Master Bedroom Makeover

Sharing is caring!

Our master bedroom makeover is a touch boho with some mid century modern elements thrown in for good measure! A rich, moody turquoise wall color with lighter elements to keep the room bright and cheerful!

Thanks to Brightech, Sherwin Williams and Foam Crown Molding for providing products for this makeover.

This master bedroom makeover has been a long-time coming and I’m so excited to finally share it with you guys even though it’s not officially done yet… whomp, whomp. It’s close enough, though, that I can’t wait any longer!

We moved into this house almost 3 years ago and have made over every single inch of it except for the master bedroom and bathroom. We even did my daughter’s bedroom twice in that time! Figures, amiright all you parents out there??

This past summer, we finally got around to painting the builder’s beige walls. And then it seemed like everything came to a screeching halt. The bed I bought was back-ordered twice and took almost 3 months to arrive (not a fan of Wayfair and the way they handled that!). The carpet install was delayed. It rained for about 17 months straight and we couldn’t get the crown molding painted. Just on and on and on…

But that’s all in the rearview mirror now and all that’s left are some finishing touches. It’s come such a long way, though!

This is what we lived with for 2.5 years…

I mean, what in the world?? We never hung a picture, we never even really tried to make it look nice. I was so turned off by the blue carpet and all the beige that I just couldn’t bring myself to do anything about this room until I knew we could tackle it from top to bottom.

And here’s what the same view looks like today!

So what did we change? Umm, well, everything!

The wall color is actually a bit darker than it appears in the above photo and I’m just madly in love with it. Sometimes it looks deep and moody and other times it’s bright and colorful.

I really struggled over what direction to go with the wall color in this room, and I’m thrilled with Deep Sea Dive! Plus, I’m just a total die-hard Sherwin Williams fan. It goes on so smoothly with no drips and the best even coverage you’ll find. I spent years thinking there wasn’t much difference between paint brands, but I was wrong. Oh so wrong.

I love walking into my bedroom now and seeing this view!

I felt like this corner of the room needed 2 things:

  • Something tall to add a height element since the nightstands are a tad on the lower side
  • A light source, since this is the farthest corner from the ceiling light and tends to get a little dark

The Luna floor lamp from Brightech was love at first site. I’m not joking. I saw it instantly when I went to the site, but still forced myself to look through the rest of the options just to be sure. And there were some close contenders because Brightech has some bee-u-tiful lights!

But the Luna won out, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice! It is SO well made and even my husband was impressed with how sturdy it is.

And get this… it is even compatible with smart home devices, so you can use it with your Google Home, Dot, Alexa, etc. Isn’t that cool?? For pretty much the most reasonable price ever. My husband cannot believe how much I talk about my love for this light!

But if we continue around the room, the wall opposite the bed used to be pretty freakin’ sad. I mean, 4 different dressers and a dog crate. Not exactly the stuff decorating dreams are made of.

But today it is streamlined and clean!

We still plan to add some floating shelves in the cubby on the right. Below the shelves will be a built-in dog bed that will look nothing like the giant, metal crate that is our current eyesore.

I also have prints ordered for above the dresser. I’ll be sure to share pictures once this side is completely finished.

But the difference is too good to not share now anyways!

Ugh, I know all these random garage sale dressers are completely my fault, but all I can see is that blue carpet from the previous owners! I’d love to see a room where blue carpet actually looks good. I’m not convinced it’s possible.

I feel like I actually breathe a sigh of relief now when I see the current pictures.

(sidenote: the TV is a current compromise, but we’re trying to work out a way to make it not so obnoxious!)

I love the way the crown molding frames the whole room now! And the best part, it was SO easy to install. You have to believe me… soooo easy!

It’s actually foam, so it’s incredibly lightweight and is hung by just using caulk. No hammers or nails or anything! Plus, it comes with inside and outside corners, so you don’t have to worry about mitering any cuts either. Really, really easy!

We were provided with the crown molding from Crown Molding Solutions and are already talking about where else we can use it. I’ll have a full tutorial coming soon on how we installed it!
