Chocolate Crinkle Cookies with Hellmann’s® Real Mayonaise

Sharing is caring!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hellmann’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My dad is probably Hellmann’s®  #1 fan.  Growing up, one of the biggest highlights in our house was when it was time to open a new jar of Hellmann’s®  (okay, maybe not one of the biggest highlights, but it is certainly something that I remember vividly and it happened every single time there was a new jar to open!).  He would yell to the house that it was time to open a new jar in case anyone wanted to come get the first whiff!  He still does it to this day!  Ahhh, it’s the little things the memories are made of!

So, when I was offered the chance to make a recipe using Hellmann’s® Real Mayonaise, there was really no way I could pass it up!  It’s a Family Tradition!

So I headed over to Hellmann’s Recipes to see what kind of summer recipe I could whip up!  I’ve done all kinds of cold salads and dressings, but I wanted to try something different this time.  It’s pretty much a given that any picnic I go to, I’ll be bringing cookies with me!  So, when I saw the recipe for Chocolate Mounds, I might have actually let out a little sigh!  These were so similar to a Chocolate Crinkle Cookie recipe that I’ve been making for years, so I had to give them a shot and see if they were comparable made with mayonaise!
They were fantastic!! And I want to be abundantly clear that since I was on Day 1 of this new “healthy challenge”, I only ate half a cookie in the name of blog research!  But it was hard, really hard to stop at half a cookie, because these were super good.  Very rich and a great, deep chocolate taste.

In fact, my daughter who is a self-professed mayonaise-hater, enjoyed these too.  It went a little something like this:

Emma: Mommy these are the best cookies ever. You should make these every week!
Me: Really, because there’s mayonaise in them!  Whoop, whoop, surprise!!
Emma: Are you for real?  Seriously??  That’s crazy, but I still love them!
Stevie: Emma, you can’t because you don’t like mayonaise!
Emma: Now I love mayonaise so let’s have hamburgers tomorrow so I can use it!

I kid you not, that’s how it went down. She’s like a walking commercial.

Chocolate Mounds (aka Chocolate Crinkle Cookies)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise
  • 4 squares (1 oz. ea.) unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup confectioners (powdered) sugar

Directions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°. In small bowl, combine flour and baking powder; set aside.   2. In large bowl, with electric mixer, beat eggs, granulated sugar, Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise, chocolate and vanilla 2 minutes.  Beat in flour mixture until blended. Shape dough by level tablespoonfuls into balls, then roll in confectioners sugar.    3. On ungreased baking sheets, arrange balls, 2 inches apart.   4. Bake 12 minutes or until tops crack.  Immediately transfer cookies to wire rack and cool completely.  Store in tightly covered container.

Not only were these delicious, but they were so fast to make!  Took me about 10 minutes to whip up the dough!  I did need to refrigerate my dough for about an hour before I could roll them, but it was also an incredibly humid day around here, so I’m sure that had something to do with it!

This recipe is definitely a keeper and now I can do my dad proud and show up at every summer picnic with dishes for every course that contain Hellmann’s® Real Mayonaise!   Be sure to check out Hellmann’s Recipes for more recipes from appetizers to side dishes to main course, and, yes, even desserts!
We love to keep lots of Ragu® Old World Style in our pantry too for meatball subs, to dip our calzones in and because I know my kids will always eat spaghetti!  There’s no need to stop there, round out your meal with a drink using Lipton® Gallon for the best cup of tea around!

The first half of the title of your post made me drool--I LOVE chocolate crinkle cookies!! Then the second half of the title made me gag--I HATE mayo!!

Then you can imagine how I smiled when I saw your daughter hates mayo too, but loved the cookies. I guess I might need to try out this recipe when I can incorporate them into my diet :)

I've been making these cookies for more than 30 years, ever since a friend gave me a cookbook (don't know if it's still available), "The Secret Ingredient -- Mayonnaise!" It's a serious cookbook, from which I've made dozens of recipes. People, the only thing you need to remember is that mayonnaise is made of egg (yolk), oil, vinegar or lemon juice, and salt. In these cookies, it serves as the fat. And it works. There has never been anyone in 30 years who has not liked the chocolate mounds (or actually even not raved at them). If you worry about mayonnaise-haters (as long as they're not allergic), don't mention it until they've had one -- or don't even bother. They are healthy ingredients you'd be putting in yourself anyway.

And refrigerating the batter does improve handling and shaping the balls. I can make these a day ahead of time and then spend the short time rolling them out the next day. Don't overcook -- 12 minutes is it! As they cool they firm up a bit more and are just right.

Those look so yummy. My husband was an absolutely-it-has-to-be-Hellman's man. He would have loved this and made it for me. =) I KNOW I could not stop with half or even one!

@AnonymousHaha! Well, I'm glad I could make you giggle because it nearly made me cry!! Part of me was proud that I was able to stop (obviously self-control is not a strong point of mine), and part of me was ready to set my alarm for 3 a.m. and go devour a couple while I was feeling tired and weak!

I have to admit that it made me giggle to read a NutriSystem post yesterday, and then a full fat mayo cookie recipe today. *hee hee*
