I’m normally all about reading my cookbooks like novels and scouring the internet for new recipes. I love finding a new, detailed recipe, shopping for it and spending way too long preparing it for my family.
But something happens once it gets warm out and all of the above no longer sounds appealing. Instead, all I want to do is find a simple, fast recipe that still tastes great so I can spend the majority of my time just hanging out.
Get-togethers with friends and family fill my time in the summer, and that’s pretty much exactly how I want to keep it.
Because there isn’t a chance I would rather be in the kitchen measuring and weighing ingredients if I could instead be outside watching the family flop around while “attempting” to play volleyball. Not an athletic bone in our body, I tell ya!
So sometimes we even spare ourselves and go straight to the games that don’t require athleticism. Games that rely more on our intellect. Games that require us to pause and think while still enjoying each others’ company.
And when he hits his “Game Wall” (which incidentally occurs quickly during this particular game), we just stick him on grill duty! This way nobody is stuck in the kitchen and he is still right beside us participating in the fun!
Bacon- Wrapped Grilled Hot Dogs
1 pack Bar-S sliced bacon
1 pack Bar-S hot dogs
Block of cheese
Hot Dog rolls
1. Cut a slit in each hot dog creating a pocket. Slice a small piece of cheese off and stuff in pocket of hot dog.
2. Wrap a piece of bacon around each hot dog. When I start wrapping, I tuck the one end under the bacon as I wrap it to secure it. When you get to the other end of the hot dog, secure with a toothpick.
3. Grill about 2 minutes on each side until cooked through.
4. I brushed our hot dog rolls with butter and grilled them as well.
Dinner is fast prep, even quicker cooking time and all of that leads to as much family time as you can possibly squeeze in!
