I’ve been going through some old pictures lately, and found some cakes I made for baby showers!
It’s getting me all nostalgic, because I remember waiting for these little babies and now
there’s all these kids running around in their place! How does this happen so fast??
This cake was based off a quilt wall-hanging the mom had for the nursery. It was a really easy design and didn’t require a lot of skill to decorate it, but I vividly remember my hand trembling for days afterwards! It felt like I was piping forever and trying to get all the lines matched up!
Loved the way it turned out, though!
This was one of the very first cakes I ever made, and seeing it now I kind of cringe
a little! The corners are all sagging and it’s not too level, but the mom was happy!
The candies were just wafers I melted and made with some plastic molds.
Have I ever mentioned that one of my very first jobs was going to some lady’s house who made chocolates and helping her fill these molds and pipe little designs on them??! I think I was like 12 or so and I have no idea who this lady was or how we knew she was “hiring”! I actually don’t even remember where she lived, how I got there, how long I worked for her or anything else related to this story. But I swear it all happened and that’s where I learned about tapping plastic molds to get rid of air bubbles! See, all my “skills” come from somewhere, and sometimes it’s a strange lady’s house.
This next one, obviously isn’t a cake, (and I do remember I shared it before), but it’s still
one of my favorites so I’m sharing it again! These were for my sister’s baby shower
and the “baby” is now a 7 year old big girl! Ahhh, here come the tears!
Let me introduce the world to Truffle Turds!!

Ahh, I couldn't eat the truffles... way too realistic looking!
I got excited when I saw the post title because my nickname for my daughter is "baby cakes" because she's just way too darn sweet!

Love the cakes! I was at a baby shower last Saturday and the cake was really cute. I love the creativity of you baking people. I'm good if I get the icing on a cake that's mostly not lopsided. =)

This is meant as a compliment to their realism...but those truffles look nasty!! haha! I'm sure they are delicious! You're very talented at cake making...even your beginnings!

Wow! My first thought on the first was was that it's super impressive...and my second thought was that the piping must have taken forever. Great job.
