These 4th of July fondant cupcake toppers are so easy to make, but look like you spent lots of time on them!
I’m going to share a super simple trick today to give you professional looking cupcakes for all of your 4th of July picnics this summer!
Have you ever worked with fondant? It is so much easier than people think!
You can use this tutorial for all sorts of decorations for your cakes and cupcakes, but today we’re going to get ourselves in a patriotic mood! I wanted to stick with the stars and stripes theme, so I knew this technique would be perfect!
Lightly dust your work surface and rolling pin with cornstarch so the fondant doesn’t stick. Then start by rolling your white fondant out and leaving it pretty thick. Then roll out your blue fondant a little bit thinner. I tried to show you in this picture, the difference in thicknesses.
Cut 3 thin strips from your blue fondant and place on top of the white. Then use the rolling pin to roll the entire piece to the desire thickness.
Use your cookie cutter to cut out your shape! Smooth any of the edges if they are rough.
Then step back and admire how your stripes are fully incorporated into the white fondant! They are one continuous surface and completely smooth and blended together!
And because I know I skipped taking a photo of the one step up above, I recorded a video for you!
I suggest letting them sit out for a couple hours to harden and then placing on top of your cupcakes. I kind of rushed these and placed them right on and you can tell a little how the points of my stars are sagging. Yours will look MUCH better than mine if you let them sit for a couple hours to maintain their shape!
You don’t need to save this tutorial just for patriotic desserts! There are lots of things just waiting to be striped, so be sure to PIN THIS POST to refer back to often!
